What does this extension do? How does it work?

This extension records how fast you type while you are actively typing. Active typing is the time you spend typing and does not include any long breaks you take inbetween typing. A long break is currently considered a pause of 5 or more seconds.

The first character you type when you begin actively typing is used as a marker for when you begin typing. If you clear the current data and type "cat", you will have timing statistics on the "a" and "t" characters but not the "c" character, since it is unknown how long it took you to type that key. However, since we know when you begain typing, we can determine how fast it took you to type "a" and "t" (and any other characters you type after that), how long you spent typing, and your average typing speed.
